What is ZOCEF DRY?

  • ZOCEF DRY contains Cefuroxime Axetil which belongs to antibiotics
  • It works by killing bacteria that cause infections

What ZOCEF DRY is used for?

It is used to,

  • treat upper or lower respiratory tract infection
  • treat urinary tract infection
  • treat skin and soft tissues infection

Talk to your doctor before taking medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to cefuroxime or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe allergic reaction to any other type of antibiotics (penicillins, monobactams and carbapenems)
  • have vomiting or severe diarrhoea
  • have mild to moderate hearing loss
  • have fungal infections
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • ZOCEF DRY is not recommended for children aged under 3 months
  • ZOCEF DRY can make you dizzy and have other side effects that make you less alert
  • Do not drive or use machines if you are affected

Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines such as:

  • oral anticoagulants (blood thinners)
  • ranitidine (medicines that decrease stomach acidity)
  • other antibiotics such as tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol, aminoglycoside
  • probenecid used for gout
  • amphotericin used for fungal infections
  • birth control pills
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you to
  • Take ZOCEF DRY after food
  • Shake the bottle before use
  • Use the measuring cup provided with the pack to measure the dose
  • The dose and the course of treatment depends on the severity and type of infection

Adults

  • The recommended dose of ZOCEF DRY is 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily

Children

The recommended dose is 10 mg/kg (to a maximum of 125 mg) to 15 mg/kg (to a maximum of 250 mg) twice daily depending on:

  • the severity and type of infection
  • the weight and age of the child, up to a maximum of 500 mg per day

If you take more ZOCEF DRY

  • If you take more ZOCEF DRY you are more likely to have fits (seizures)
  • Contact your doctor or your nearest hospital immediately

If you forget to take ZOCEF DRY

  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Just take your next dose at the usual time

If you stop taking ZOCEF DRY

  • It is important that you take the full course of ZOCEF DRY
  • Do not stop unless your doctor advises you to stop
  • severe allergic reaction marked by raised and itchy rash, swelling of the face or mouth causing difficulty in breathing
  • skin rash, which may blister (central dark spot surrounded by a paler area, with a dark ring around the edge)
  • fungal infections
  • severe diarrhoea
  • fever, chills, headache, muscle pain and skin rash (Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction)
  • fungal infections 
  • headache, dizziness
  • diarrhoea
  • stomach pain
  • an increase in a type of white blood cell (eosinophilia)
  • an increase in liver enzymes
  • skin rashes
  • a decrease in the number of blood platelets or white blood cells

NA

  • severe diarrhoea (pseudomembranous colitis)
  • skin reactions (including severe)
  • high temperature (fever)
  • yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
  • anaemia

NA

  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
  • Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
