What is Stamaril Vaccine?

Stamaril Vaccine(Yellow Fever vaccine) prevents against Yellow Fever, a viral hemorrhagic disease caused by the transmission of a flavivirus through the bite of an infected mosquito. Yellow fever can cause fever and flu-like illness, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin), liver failure, lung failure, kidney failure, vomiting of blood, and possibly death.

You should receive the vaccine at least 10 days prior to your arrival in an area where you may be exposed to the virus.

This vaccine is also recommended for people who work in a research laboratory and may be exposed to yellow fever virus through needle-stick accidents or inhalation of viral droplets in the air.

What is Stamaril Vaccine used for?

  • Prevention of Yellow fever

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • an allergy to gelatin, eggs, or chicken proteins;
  • cancer, leukemia, or lymphoma;
  • a weak immune system caused by disease (such as cancer or HIV), or by taking certain medicines such as steroids;
  •  disorder such as myasthenia gravis;
  • a disease or tumor of the thymus gland, or if your thymus has been surgically removed; or
  • if you have received a transplant.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
  • The first shot can be given to a child who is at least 9 months old.
  • It is not known whether Stamaril Vaccine alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have ever taken following medicines:

  • Azathioprine
  • Mercaptopurine
  • Methotrexate
  • Mycophenolate mofetil

 

 

  • It is administered to you by a doctor or nurse  
  • You will always receive this injection by intramuscular or subcutaneously.
  •  Kindly do not self administer.
  • Injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness)
  • Fever
  • Weakness
  • Drowsiness
  • Unusual crying
  • Loss of appetite
  • Store in a refrigerator (2 - 8°C). Do not freeze.
  • Keep out of the reach of children
  • Do not use this medicine after expiry date
