What is PROPOFOL LIPURO 1%?

  • PROPOFOL LIPURO 1% contains Propofol which belongs to a group of medicines called general anaesthetics

What PROPOFOL LIPURO 1% is used for?

It is used in patients to:

  • cause unconsciousness (sleep) during surgical operations or other procedures
  • sedate (so that you are sleepy but not completely asleep) during diagnostic and surgical procedures, alone or in combination with local or regional anesthesia
  • sedate when receiving artificial respiration in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to Propofol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine   
  • have or ever had a fit or convulsion 
  • have very high levels of fat in your blood
  • have ever been told that your body has problems in fat metabolism
  • had lost lots of water (you are dehydrated)
  • have any other health problems such as with your heart, breathing, kidneys or liver
  • have been generally unwell for some time
  • Do not have PROPOFOL LIPURO 1% if you are pregnant unless absolutely necessary
  • This medicine can pass into breast milk. Therefore, you should not breastfeed your baby for 24 hours after taking this medicine
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will give you the right dose based on your child’s age and body weight
  • You may still feel sleepy for some time while taking this medicine. Do not drive or use any tools or machines if you feel so

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • rifampicin (used for tuberculosis)
  • It will be given to you as an injection into a vein by a doctor or nurse

Side effects that can happen during anaesthesia:

  • a feeling of pain at the site of the injection (while the injection is being given, before you fall asleep)
  • low blood pressure
  • changes in your breathing pattern
  • slow heart beat

Side effects that can happen after anaesthesia:

  • nausea, vomiting
  • headache
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store below 25°C
