What is MOVICOL?

Introduction:

Movicol powder is a laxative for the treatment of constipation. It helps you to have a comfortable bowel movement even if you have been constipated for a long time. It also works in very bad constipation called faecal impaction.

Macrogol used to treat a buildup of hard faeces in bowel which may be a result of long-term constipation (faecal impaction). It makes your faeces softer and easier to pass, giving you relief from constipation. The electrolytes help to maintain your body’s normal levels of sodium, potassium and water while you are being treated for constipation. Mix with water to make a drink, a ready-mixed solution to drink, or a liquid that you need to dilute before drinking.

What MOVICOL is used for?

Therapeutic uses of Movicol powder:

  • Treats constipation and faecal impaction
  • Helps to have a comfortable bowel movement
  • Dissolve Movicol powder in 125ml (1/4 pint) of water and drink.
  • Take this 1 –3 times a day.
  • This medicine can be taken at any time with or without food.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredients of this medicine.
  • This medicine can be taken by pregnant and breastfeeding women. Consult your healthcare professional before taking this medicine.
  • It is not recommended for children below 12 years of age.
  • Tell your doctor about all the medicines you use, including prescription and non-prescription medicines and herbal supplements.

How to manage side effects:

 

Diarrhoea:

 

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines to treat diarrhoea without speaking to doctor.

Vomiting:

Sit down or lie propped up. Avoid physical activity. Drink something sugary like ginger. Avoid oily and spicy foods.

Headache:

Take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not sleep more than you normally would. Do not strain your eyes (for example by looking at a screen).

  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
  • Store at temperature below 25°C.
  • Do not freeze.
