What is Mannitol Injection?

Mannitol Injection is an osmotic diuretic used to remove excess water and toxins from the body in patients with kidney disease. It is also used in the treatment of cerebral edema and intraocular pressure. Frequent monitoring of electrolytes levels is necessary during treatment with this medicine.

What is Mannitol Injection used for?

  • Cerebral edema (Fluid accumulation in cerebral cavity)
  • Oliguria (Low urine output)
  • Intraocular pressure (Fluid pressure inside the eye)

Talk to your Doctor, if you ever had:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to Mannitol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • swelling or congestion in your lungs
  • kidney disease;
  • heart disease; or
  • an electrolyte imbalance (such as low levels of potassium or sodium in your blood).
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Consult with doctor.
  • Mannitol 20% Infusion does not usually affect your ability to drive.

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have ever taken following medicines:

  • Aminoglycoside antibiotics
  • Salbutamol

 

  • It is administered to you by a doctor or nurse  
  • You will always receive this injection by infusion into one of your veins
  •  Kindly do not self administer
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Dehydration
  • Injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness)
  • Protect from excess heat and light
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
  • Do not use the medicine after expiry date
