What is MAGNESIUM SULPHATE?

  • MAGNESIUM SULPHATE contains Magnesium sulphate

What MAGNESIUM SULPHATE is used for?

It is used:

  • to treat low levels of magnesium in the blood
  • to prevent seizures caused by a serious complication of pregnancy known as eclampsia
  • in the treatment of acute hypomagnesaemia

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the ingredients in this medicine    
  • have heart problems
  • have suffer from liver or kidney failure
  • have any breathing problems
  • This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless it is considered essential
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • drugs used to treat high blood pressure
  • drugs used to treat nervous system
  • digitalis (used to treat heart problem)
  • tubocurarine (used as muscle relaxant)
  • neuromuscular blocking drugs (used to stop movement during surgery)
  • barium (used when having an x-ray)
  • streptomycin (used to treat bacterial infection)
  • This medicine will be administered by a doctor or nurse
  • It will be given to you into a vein (intravenous administration)
  • sweating, fainting and a fluttering heartbeat
  • slowed reflexes
  • flushing of the skin
  • temporarily low blood pressure
  • low body temperature
  • slow or irregular heartbeat
  • feeling or being sick
  • feeling thirsty
  • drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness
  • slowed breathing
  • heart attack
  • hypersensitivity reactions
  • hypocalcaemia
  • dehydration
  • low phosphate levels in the blood
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
