What is HEPLOCK 10ML?

  • HEPLOCK contains Heparin which belongs to a group of medicines called anticoagulants

What HEPLOCK is used for?

HEPLOCK prevents blood clotting.

It is used to treat and prevent:

  • blood clots in leg veins (deep vein thrombosis), lung (pulmonary embolism), heart following a heart attack (mural thrombosis)
  • chest pains resulting from disease of the heart arteries (unstable angina pectoris)
  • severe blockages affecting arteries in the legs (acute peripheral arterial occlusion)

It is also used during heart and lung operations and during kidney dialysis.

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • are about to have surgery of the brain, spine, eye or lumbar puncture or local anaesthetic nerve block or some other procedure
  • have any condition which makes you likely to bleed more easily
  • are diabetic
  • have high levels or potassium in your blood
  • have kidney or liver disease
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • This medicine is not recommended to premature, newborn babies and children up to 3 years of age
  • This medicine has not been reported to affect ability to drive or operate machines

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • drugs used to treat pain
  • dipyridamole, epoprostenol, clopidogrel or streptokinase (may interfere with the proper clotting of the blood)
  • medicines that may increase the potassium level in the blood
  • glyceryl trinitrate (used to treat heart disease)
  • HEPLOCK will be given by a doctor or nurse
  • It will be injected into a vein or underneath the skin

If you receive more HEPLOCK

  • This medicine will be given to you under medical supervision. It is therefore unlikely that you will be given too much. However, if you feel unwell, tell your doctor or go to nearest hospital immediately
  • Symptoms of overdose: bleeding
  • severe allergic reactions: wheezing, difficulty breathing, a blue tinge to the lips, fever, chills, swelling of the eyes and lips and shock
  • bleeding and bruising: unusual bruising or bleeding gums or purple spots on your skin, nosebleeds, blood in urine (which may cause this to go dark), black, tarry-looking stools
  • bleeding (will not stop from any operation site or other injury)
  • Bleeding
  • Erythema (skin redness)

Hep Lock is an anticoagulant. It works by preventing the formation of harmful blood clots. Although it does not dissolve the existing blood clots, it prevents them from growing larger and causing blockages in the blood vessels.

  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25ºC
