What is HCQS 400MG?

HCQS 400MG contains Hydroxychloroquine sulfate which works by reducing inflammation in people with autoimmune diseases (this is where the body’s immune system attacks itself by mistake)

What HCQS 400MG is used for?

HCQS 400MG is used for treating

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (inflammation of the joints)
  • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (in children)
  • Discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus (a disease of the skin or the internal organs)

Talk to your doctor before taking HCQS 400MG, If you

  • are allergic to hydroxychloroquine
  • have an eye problem which affects the retina or the inside of the eye (maculopathy)
  • have liver or kidney problems
  • have serious stomach or gut problems
  • have heart problems
  • have any problems with your blood or nervous system
  • have psoriasis
  • have a genetic condition known as ‘glucose-6-dehydrogenase deficiency’
  • have a rare illness called ‘porphyria’ which affects your metabolism
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or might become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, ask your doctor for advice before taking any medicine
  • HCQS 400MG is only suitable for children who weigh more than 31 kg

You may get eye problems while taking this medicine. If this happens, do not drive or use any tools or machines, and tell your doctor straight away

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. Especially tell your doctor if you take the following medicines such as

  • Some antibiotics used for infections (such as gentamicin, neomycin or tobramycin, Moxifloxacin)
  • Cimetidine – used for stomach ulcers
  • Neostigmine and pyridostigmine – used for muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
  • Halofantrine, mefloquine – used for malaria
  • Amiodarone, Digoxin – used for heart problems
  • Medicines used for epilepsy
  • Medicines for diabetes such as insulin or metformin
  • Antacids – used for heartburn or indigestion
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Ciclosporin – used after an organ transplantation to help prevent rejection
  • Praziquantel – used to treat worm infections
  • Agalsidase – used to treat a rare condition called Fabry’s disease
  • Always take HCQS 400MG exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Take this medicine by mouth
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a meal or a glass of milk
  • The doctor will work out the dose depending on your body weight

If you take more HCQS 400MG

  • If you take more HCQS 400MG than you should, tell your doctor or go to a hospital casualty department straight away

If you forget to take HCQS 400MG

  • If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet

If you stop taking HCQS 400MG

  • Keep taking HCQS 400MG until your doctor tells you to stop. Do not stop taking HCQS 400MG just because you feel better. If you stop, your illness may get worse again
  • An allergic reaction marked by red or lumpy rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of the eyelids, lips, face, throat or tongue
  • Blistering or peeling of the skin around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals, flu-like symptoms and fever (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome)
  • eye problems such as changes in the colour of your eye
  • Stomach pain
  • Feeling sick
  • Skin rashes, itching
  • diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Headache
  • Changes in mood with uncontrollable laughing or crying
  • muscle weakness, cramps, stiffness or spasms or changes in sensation such as tingling
  • Changes in the color of your skin or the inside of your nose or mouth
  • Hair loss or loss of hair color
  • Feeling nervous
  • Ringing in the ear (tinnitus)
  • Balance problems (vertigo) or feeling dizzy
  • Liver problems shown by blood tests

Before treatment with HCQS 400MG

  • Before you take this medicine, you should have your eyes examined
  • This testing should be repeated at least every 12 months whilst taking hydroxychloroquine sulfate
  • If you are over 65, need to take a high dose or have kidney problems then this examination should be performed more often
  • Hydroxychloroquine can cause lowering of blood glucose level. A check of the blood glucose level may be necessary
  • If you are not sure if any of the above applies to you, talk to your doctor before taking HCQS 400MG
  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children
  • Store at room temperature 15°C to 25°C
  • Do not use HCQS 400MG after the expiry date
