What is GLIPRIDE 1MG?

  • GLIPRIDE 1MG contains Glimepiride which belongs to a group of medicines called sulfonylureas
  • It works by increasing the amount of insulin released from your pancreas, which then lowers your blood sugar levels.

What GLIPRIDE 1MG is used for?

  • GLIPRIDE 1MG is used to treat a certain form of diabetes (type 2 diabetes mellitus) when diet, physical exercise and weight reduction alone have not been able to control your blood sugar levels

Talk to your doctor before taking GLIPRIDE 1MG, if you:

  • are allergic (hypersensitive) to Glimepiride or other sulfonylureas or sulfonamides or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have insulin dependent diabetes
  • have diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes when your acid level is raised in your body)
  • are in a diabetic coma
  • have severe kidney or liver disease
  • GLIPRIDE 1MG should not be taken during pregnancy
  • It may pass into breast milk. It should not be taken during breast feeding
  • Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breast feeding or planning to become pregnant
  • It is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age

Tell your doctor if you are taking, medicines such as:

  • phenylbutazone, azopropazone, oxyphenbutazone, aspirin, medicines to treat pain and inflammation 
  • insulin or metformin, medicines to treat diabetes mellitus 
  • coumarin derivatives such as warfarin, medicines to inhibit blood clotting 
  • fenfluramine, medicines used to reduce weight 
  • disopyramide, medicines used to control abnormal heart beat 
  • fibrates, nicotinic acid, medicines lowering high cholesterol level 
  • fluoxetine, MAO inhibitors, medicines to treat depression
  • tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, fluconazole, miconazole, quinolones, clarithromycin, medicines to treat bacterial and fungal infections 
  • long acting sulfonamides, medicines to treat urinary infections 
  • oestrogens, progestogens, medicines containing female sex hormones 
  • medicines to treat high blood pressure 
  • levothyroxine medicines used to stimulate the thyroid gland 
  • chlorpromazine and other phenothiazine derivatives, medicines to treat severe mental disorders 
  • anabolics, medicines supporting muscle build up
  • allopurinol, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, medicines to treat gout
  • Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow the medicine whole with at least half glass of water
  • Do not crush or chew the tablets

If you take more GLIPRIDE 1MG

  • If you have taken more GLIPRIDE 1MG, contact your doctor or go to nearest hospital immediately
  • Severe cases of hypoglycaemia accompanied by loss of consciousness and coma are cases of medical emergency requiring immediate medical treatment and admission into hospital

If you forget to take GLIPRIDE 1MG

  • If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten doses

If you stop taking GLIPRIDE 1MG

  • If you interrupt or stop the treatment you should be aware that the desired blood sugar lowering effect is not achieved or that the disease will get worse again. Keep taking GLIPRIDE 3MG until your doctor tells you to stop
  • lower blood sugar than normal
  • decrease in the number of blood cells
  • blood platelets (which increases risk of bleeding or bruising)
  • white blood cells (which makes infections more likely)
  • red blood cells (which can make the skin pale and cause weakness or breathlessness)
  • feeling or being sick, diarrhoea, feeling full or bloated, and abdominal pain
  • decrease in the amount of sodium level in your blood (shown by blood tests)
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
  • Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
