What is DEXIN 0.5MG?

  • DEXIN 0.5MG contains Dexamethasone which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids

What DEXIN 0.5MG is used for?

It can be used to:

  • reduce inflammation
  • treat a number of different diseases of the immune system

Talk to your Doctor if you:

  • are allergic to Dexamethasone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have an infection that affects the whole body
  • need to have a vaccination, particularly with live virus vaccines
  • have ever had severe depression or manic depression (bipolar disorder)
  • have a cancer of the blood
  • have symptoms of tumour lysis syndrome such as muscle cramping, muscle weakness, confusion, visual loss or disturbances and shortness of breath, in case you suffer from haematological malignancy
  • have kidney or liver problems
  • have high blood pressure or heart disease
  • have diabetes or there is a family history of diabetes
  • have thinning of the bones (osteoporosis)
  • have had muscle weakness with this or other steroids in the past
  • have raised eye pressure (glaucoma) or there is a family history of glaucoma
  • have a stomach (peptic) ulcer
  • have mental problems or you have had a mental illness
  • have epilepsy
  • have migraines
  • have an underactive thyroid gland
  • have tuberculosis (TB)
  • have stunted growth
  • If you are pregnant, or breastfeeding think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • DEXIN 0.5MG should not be routinely given to premature babies with respiratory problems
  • DEXIN 0.5MG is not likely to affect you being able to drive or use any tools or machines

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • medicines to treat heart and blood problems, high blood pressure and diuretics
  • warfarin (used to treat blood clots)
  • rifampicin and rifabutin (used to treat infections)
  • phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbitone and primidone (used to treat epilepsy)
  • antacids (used to treat stomach problems)
  • carbenoxolone (used for ulcers)
  • aspirin, ibuprofen or similar non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (used to control pain or lower inflammation)
  • medicines used to treat diabetes, lower potassium levels, myasthenia
  • indinavir or saquinavir, ritonavir, cobicistat (used to treat HIV)
  • oral contraceptives containing oestrogen and progestogen
  • aminoglutethimide (used to treat cancer)
  • methotrexate (used for cancer or inflammatory problems)
  • ephedrine (used to relieve symptoms of a blocked nose)
  • acetazolamide (used for glaucoma)
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Do not crush or chew the medicines

If you take more DEXIN 0.5MG 

  • If you take more of this medicine than you should, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital immediately
  • Symptoms of overdosage are: swelling of the throat, skin reaction, difficulty breathing

If you forget to take DEXIN 0.5MG 

  • If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking DEXIN 0.5MG 

  • Do not stop taking your medicine without the advice of your doctor even if you feel better
  • Cardiovascular complications
  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Gastrointestinal disorder
  • Metabolic disorder
  • Musculoskeletal (bone, muscle or joint) pain
  • Neurological disorder
  • Infection
  • Hiccup
  • Decreased sperm count
  • Feeling of discomfort
  • Cushing syndrome
  • Weight gain
  • Dexin Tablet is a steroid which works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies.
  • Protect from excess heat and light
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
  • Do not use the medicine after expiry date
