What is CYTABIN 500MG?

  • CYTABIN 500MG contains Cytarabine which belongs to a group of medicines known as anticancer medicine
  •  

What CYTABIN 500MG is used for?

  • It is used to treat some types of leukemia (cancer affecting the blood) and lymphomas (cancer of the lymph glands) 
  • It may be used in combination with other anti-cancer medicines                                             

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have had severe effects on your brain (encephalopathy)
  • have low blood cell count
  • have any problems with your liver including jaundice (causes yellowing of the skin)
  • have recently received cancer medicine treatment or radiotherapy
  • have radiotherapy
  • have hyperuricemia
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • digoxin or beta-acetyl digoxin (used to treat heart problems)
  • gentamicin (used to treat infections)
  • 5-fluorocytosine (used to treat fungal infections)
  • medicines which decrease the activity of the immune system
  • CYTABIN 500MG will be given to you in a hospital, under the supervision of a doctor
  • It may be given by injection (using a syringe) under the skin (subcutaneous) or into a vein (intravenous). It may also be given by infusion (drip) into a vein

Common side effects of Cytarabine include:

  • nausea and vomiting (may be severe),
  • loss of appetite,
  • diarrhea,
  • constipation,
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • injection site reactions (pain, swelling, and redness),
  • drowsiness,
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25ºC
