What is Cyclopent Eye Drop?

Cyclopent eyedrop contains Cyclopentolate belongs to the class of ocular medications called mydriatic-anticholinergic used to enlarge the pupil of the eye (preventing the eye from focusing) and to paralyze the lens temporarily before an eye examination or surgery.

What is Cyclopent Eye Drop used for?

  • to enlarge the pupil of the eye (preventing the eye from focusing) 
  • to paralyze the lens temporarily before an eye examination or surgery
  • inflammation of the eye (uveitis) and
  • reduces inflammation (redness and swelling) after cataract surgery.

 

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you

  • are allergic to Cyclopentolate
  • have personal or family history of glaucoma (angle-closure type),
  • have Down's syndrome,
  • have brain damage or spastic paralysis (in children),
  • have heart disease.
  • Do not use CYCLOPENT if you are pregnant unless your doctor still recommends it
  • Do not use CYCLOPENT if you are breast-feeding
  • CYCLOPENT should not be used in children and adolescents
  • CYCLOPENT may cause temporarily blurred vision in patients
  • Do not drive or use machines until the symptoms have cleared

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines

  • eye medications for glaucoma/increased pressure in the eye (e.g., dorzolamide, pilocarpine),
  • certain antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g., quinidine),
  • antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine, meclizine),
  • antispasmodics (e.g., dicyclomine),
  • certain drugs for Parkinson's disease (including anticholinergics such as trihexyphenidyl),
  • tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline)
  • Wash your hands
  • Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch.
  • Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place 1 drop into the pouch.
  • Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply gentle pressure for 2 to 3 minutes. This will prevent the medication from draining away from the eye and reduce side effects.
  • Try not to blink and do not rub your eye.
  • Repeat these steps if your dose is for more than 1 drop or for your other eye if so directed.
  • Eye irritation
  • Foreign body sensation in eyes
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye itching
  • Stinging in the eyes
  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Burning sensation in eye
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not use after the expiry date
  • Store at room temperature of (15-25°C)
  • Once opened, solutions may become contaminated, which can cause eye infections
  • Therefore, you must throw away the bottle 4 weeks after you first opened it, even if some solution is left
