What is CILAMIN 250MG?

  • CILAMIN 250MG contains Penicillamine which belongs to a group of medicines known as disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDS)

What CILAMIN 250MG is used for?

It is used in adults and children to treat:

  • serious active rheumatoid arthritis including still’s disease in children
  • wilson’s disease (the body cannot get rid of copper properly)
  • cystinuria (kidney problem)
  • lead poisoning
  • chronic active hepatitis (in adults)

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe kidney problems
  • have lupus erythematosus (an auto-immune disorder)
  • have a history of blood disorders after taking this medicine (agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia or thrombocytopenia)
  • are elderly
  • are due to have surgery
  • have protein or blood in urine
  • notice increased susceptibility to infection
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will give the dose depends on the age and weight of your child
  • Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine, it may cause dizziness, confusion and problems with your vision

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • medicines used to relieve pain, inflammation and stiffness in joints and muscles
  • iron therapy (used to treat low iron levels or anemia)
  • gold treatment (used to treat rheumatoid arthritis)
  • antacids (used to treat indigestion)
  • digoxin (used to treat heart failure)
  • chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine (used to treat malaria)
  • clozapine (used to treat the mental illness schizophrenia)
  • levodopa (used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease)
  • cytotoxic drugs (medicines to treat cancers)
  • immunosuppressive drugs (medicines given following an organ transplant)
  • zinc
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow this medicine with a glass of water
  • It should be taken on an empty stomach atleast half an hour before meals or before you go to bed

If you take more CILAMIN 250MG

  • If you take more of your medicine than you should, contact your doctor or nearest hospital

If you forget to take CILAMIN 250MG

  • If you forget to take your medicine take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose

If you stop taking CILAMIN 250MG

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless told to do so by your doctor
  • allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, wheezing, tightness of the chest, fever, swelling of the face, throat or tongue, sore, dry, itchy skin or severe skin rashes
  • pass blood in urine
  • bruise more easily, get nose bleeds and/or bleeding gums more often (thrombocytopenia)
  • extreme tiredness or weakness, paleness of skin and are more susceptible to infections (anaemia)
  • high temperature and ulcers
  • blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals
  • protein in your urine

  • soreness or swelling of the mouth or tongue
  • clusters of small lumps usually on the neck or arms
  • loss of hearing
  • wrinkly or loose skin
  • hair loss
  • swelling of the breast tissue in men and women

  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
