What is CAREPRIM DS 960MG?

  • CAREPRIM DS 960mg is a co-trimoxazole which contains sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprom belongs to the class of Sulphonamides. They work by stopping the growth of bacteria.

What CAREPRIM DS 960MG is used for?

It is used to:

  •  treat certain bacterial infections, such as pneumonia (a lung infection), bronchitis (infection of the tubes leading to the lungs),
  • treat infections of the urinary tract, ears, and intestines.
  •  to treat 'travelers' diarrhea.

Before taking co-trimoxazole tell your doctor and pharmacist;

  •  if you are allergic to co-trimoxazole, any other medications, or any ingredients in co-trimoxazole tablets and suspension. Ask your pharmacist for a list of ingredients.
  •  if you have or have ever had thrombocytopenia (less than normal number of platelets) caused by taking sulfonamides or trimethoprim; megaloblastic anemia (abnormal red blood cells) caused by folate deficiency (low blood levels of folic acid), phenylketonuria (PKU, an inherited condition in which a special diet must be followed to prevent mental retardation), or liver or kidney disease. 
  •  if you have or have ever had severe allergies; asthma; low levels of folic acid in the body which may be caused by malnutrition (you do not eat or cannot digest the nutrients needed for good health); human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection; porphyria (an inherited blood disease that may cause skin or nervous system problems); thyroid disease; or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency (an inherited blood disease).
  • It is not suitable if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking co-trimoxazole, call your doctor immediately. Co-trimoxazole can harm the fetus.
  • . Co-trimoxazole should not be used in children less than 2 months of age.
  • It is not likely to cause any effects for drivers or machine users however there is no such studies that have been carried out to test the effects of co-trimoxazole in drivers and machine users you can consult your doctor for any queries.

  • Oral hypoglycemics( use to treat in diabetes)
  • co-admin with pyrimethamine causes megaloblastic anemia.
  • used with ciclosporin enhances the renal damage.
  • Inhibits phenytoin clearance.
  • Always take your medicine as advice by your doctor or pharmacist:
  • The tablets should be swallowed whole with one glass of water(200ml)
  • Take your tablets after meal at the same time daily
  • Your doctor will monitor your respond to your medicine and may change your dose if required.

  • toxic epidermal necrolysisi
  • clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea
  • severe and symptomatic hyponatraemia
  • Black, tarry stools
  • blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  • changes in skin color
  • chest pain
  • chills
  • cough or hoarseness
  • dark urine
  • diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • fever
  • general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  • headache
  • itching
  • joint or muscle pain
  • light-colored stools
  • loss of appetite
  • lower back or side pain
  • nausea
  • pain, tenderness, or swelling of the foot or leg
  • painful or difficult urination
  • pale skin
  • rash
  • red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  • red, irritated eyes
  • sore throat
  • sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  • stomach pain
  • swollen or painful glands
  • tightness in the chest
  • trouble breathing
  • unpleasant breath odor
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • vomiting of blood
  • yellow eyes or skin
  • Back, leg, or stomach pains
  • bleeding gums
  • blindness or vision changes
  • blisters, hives, or itching
  • bloating
  • blood in the urine or stools
  • bluish-colored lips, fingernails, or palms
  • burning, crawling, itching, numbness, painful, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  • burning of the face or mouth
  • Renal failuare
  • Haemolysis
  • Impaired phenylalanine metabolism
  • QT prolongation
  • stevens-johnson syndrome
  • toxic epidermal necrolysisi
  • clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea
  • severe and symptomatic hyponatraemia
  • keep this medicine out of reach of children.
  • Donot use this medicine after expiry
  • Store in original package to protect from light
  • keep at room temperature (15-25°C)
