What is ANAWIN 0.5%?

  • ANAWIN 0.5% contains Bupivacaine which belongs to a group of medicines called amide-type local anaesthetics.

What ANAWIN 0.5% is used for?

It is used to:

  • numb (anaesthetise) parts of the body during surgery in adults and children above 12 years
  • relieve pain during childbirth, pain in adults, infants and children above 1 year of age.
  •  also used as an anesthetic for dental procedures.

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine   
  • have cardiogenic shock (a condition where the heart is unable to supply enough blood to the body
  • have hypovolaemic shock (very low blood pressure leading to collapse)
  • have problems with clotting of your blood
  • have diseases of the brain or spine such as meningitis, polio or spondylitis
  • have a severe headache caused by bleeding inside the head (intracranial haemorrhage)
  • have problems with your spinal cord due to anaemia
  • have blood poisoning (septicaemia)
  • you have a recent trauma, tuberculosis or tumours of the spine
  • have heart, kidney or liver problems
  • have a swollen stomach due to more fluid than normal
  • have a stomach tumour
  • have been told that you have decreased volume of blood (hypovolaemia)
  • have fluid in your lungs
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Not recommended for children under 12 years.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you experience sleepy and it may affect the speed of your reactions it may impair your ability to drive or use machines

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • an antidepressant or antipsychotic medication;
  • anti-nausea medicine such as prochlorperazine (Compazine) or promethazine (Phenergan);
  • blood pressure medicine--carteolol, carvedilol, labetalol, nadolol, propranolol, sotalol, timolol;
  • a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven);
  • ergot medicine--dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, ergonovine, methylergonovine; or
  • an MAO inhibitor--isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.
  • ANAWIN 0.5% will be given by a doctor or nurse
  • swelling of your face, lips, hands, feet, ankles, tongue or throat
  • difficult to swallow
  • difficulty breathing
  • severe itching of the skin (with raised lumps)
  • high or low blood pressure
  • dizzy or light-headed
  • sick, nausea, vomiting
  • slow heartbeat
  • problems passing water
  • problems with the liver enzymes 
  • damaged nerves
  • feeling light-headed
  • fits (seizures)
  • numbness of the tongue or around the mouth
  • ringing in the ears or being sensitive to sound
  • difficulty speaking
  • blurred sight (vision)
  • shaking (tremors)
  • twitching of the muscles
  • double vision
  • nerve damage, muscle weakness (neuropathy)
  • arachnoiditis (inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the spinal cord) 
  • numbness or weakness in the legs
  • uneven heartbeat (arrhythmias)

  • Do not use this medicine after expiry
  • Store in original package to protect from light
  • keep at room temperature (15-25°C)
